History Preserved
When engaging with the local neighborhood, we heard concerns about the loss of a historic home on the corner of North Freeman and Sportfisher. In March 2019 we engaged local historian Kristi Hawthorne to provide a Cultural Resources Report and Historical Assessment.
The report outlined a detailed history of the property and neighborhood dating back to when the house was built in 1892. Also documented are detailed photographs and descriptions of the home. The report concluded that the home did not meet California Regerter Standards with no major event had occured at the home, no individual with specific contributions to history living there, and because of the extensive modifications did not meet the criteria for distinctive design or construction.
Local resident Michael Carter felt otherwise and worked to preserve the home. Allykat Development decided to make the house available for relocation. Mr. Carter acquired a new piece of land and worked with our general contractor to move the home and remodel it for use by a US veteran.
We are pleased and thankful to Mr Carter that the home was documented in place and now continues to serve the Oceanside community.
